This file is an aerial photograph of an entire county (Russell) in Kansas at a 1-meter resolution - it's a big sucker (800M), but seems to me like Irfanview ought to work for opening & working with it: first go here: then click on ' Imagery and Raster' then click on ' FSA National Agriculture Imagery Program (NAIP) 2008' then, under Download Files, click on ' Browse available files' then save file ' RS08NAIP.zip' and extract file ' RS08NAIP.jp2' therefrom. That's it - that's the JP2 file I get the Decode error! From when I try to open it. Thanks for your help. With my plugin it couldn't be opened, and I think even with the LuraWave plugin. If compressed it's 800 MB, I think it'll be at least three times big uncompressed; this means that it would take at least 2.4 GB of memory for the target DIB, more than the address space available to the IV process.

Even if it were smaller, the decoders usually decode all the image in an intermediate format, translating it to a DIB, so it would be necessary to have enough free address space for at least twice the size of the uncompressed image. I suggest you to use some third party JPEG2000-specialized reading application that loads at the same time only the tiles you're viewing (or decodes the file one tile at time). Still, I don't know if such program can be obtained for free.
